Reclaiming Your Inner Goth With Sharon Needles
So- in case you didn’t know, I have a small preoccupation with the Lady Boys…alright, alright- I can’t get enough of them. I think I have some strange Mommy issues- because they’re big, glamorous women that could still somehow cradle me and make me feel like a little girl. Except that the last time I lay my head upon the bosom of a genuine queen her tits were hard as a rock and it was late enough that she was rocking some serious 5 o’clock shadow. Which leads me to my next point:
Sometimes I forget about my inner goth. I get so tied up with this season’s pastel dress palette and the new Prada shoes (avec tail lights circa 1950’s- tres chic) that I forget about the Doc Martens & the Fluevogs, the black lipstick, 40 volume bleach and my insatiable obsession with Buffy the Vampire Slayer. THEN someone like Sharon Needles comes along and reminds me to be proud, embrace the real me, start wearing more black eyeliner & using less pink lip gloss.
“But Helen, How does any of this relate?” Well, I saw Sharon on RuPaul’s Drag Race & absolutely fell in love- so when the Ultra Fabulous Miss Mimi Imfurst mentioned that Sharon would be joining us for a performance at Voyeur- I had to be there. The place was CRAWLING with people dressed in black that had extra holes in their faces- I felt right at home. Except that I usually get a table right next to the stage & tonight I had to stand in the entranceway (ahem- if you’re reading this Mimi, maybe we could work something out- because I don’t like standing and I don’t wait in line) because she totally blew the place up!!! I hate to say it, Needles Jones, but I think she one ups your cover of Xtina’s “You are Beautiful.” I had the pleasure of meeting Sharon Needles at the end of the night- and she was a real doll- creepy as it sounds, I’d like to be the fish in an Alaska Thunderfuck/Sharon Needles sandwich- full drag and extra mayo please, I like it a little wet.
C.U. Next Tuesday,
