A Little Too Real With Sam Jinks
Photo realistic or hyper realistic sculpture seems to be all the rage lately and I’m really getting into it. The attention to detail, down to skin pores and hair follicles that so many of these artist focus on is super amazing. But it’s not just the craftsmanship of creating these perfect replicas that make artists like Sam Jinks stand out. A real artist, a master artist evokes emotion and twists reality. Jinks is flawless at this. Take his Tattooed Lady. If you passed around the photo, people would think it was an incredibly powerful, emotional and strange pic of an old topless woman in a white veil. But then show the picture of Jinks standing next to the two and half foot sculpture and the world gets turned upside down. Jinks depictions of humanity are more human than human, and his art is greater than life.
